Orientation and Registration Requirement for Incoming Students

All incoming students will complete the following two components before their first semester:

  1. Advising & Registration Process led by your assigned advising center
  2. Orientation Process led by Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR)

  3. Make a reservation for your linked Advising & Registration and Orientation Workshop Dates by December 1st.
  4. Submit your transfer credits!
    • Submit official AP or IB scores to CSULB.
    • Submit official transcripts to the university. Click HERE for instructions
    • First Time, First Year Students, submit your unofficial transfer credit HERE prior to SOAR (while we wait for official credit to post)
  5. Complete the following two online courses on Canvas:
    • Online Pre-Orientation Program - this course is required as part of your orientation requirement

    Both courses must be completed
    • All incoming students are required to complete the following courses:
      • Online Advising & Registration

New Transfer Students - What to Expect:

  1. Check your CSULB email (BeachMail) starting one day before your Advising & Registration Day.
    • We will send you a personalized schedule for the first semester by the morning of your Advising & Registration Day. Search for emails from "CHHS Advising." Double-check your spam folder!
  2. Register for Courses!
    • On the morning of your assigned Advising & Registration Day, your hold will be lifted so you can register for courses.
      • It is your responsibility to ensure all other holds are removed in a timely manner. Check your MyCSULB student center for any outstanding holds.
    • We recommend you register on the morning of your Advising & Registration Day, after your hold is lifted. Courses will fill quickly; waiting to register, even if it's a few hours, may result in priority courses being full, not enough courses to be full time, and/or a delay in your graduation.
    • Connect with your advisor on your Advising & Registration day
  3. Registration Questions & Assistance
    • Advisors will be available on your Advising & Registration day between 1:00-3:00pm.
    • Location information will be sent in the email you receive by the morning of your Advising & Registration Day.

New First Time, First Year Students - What to Expect:

    • A CHHS Advisor will reach out to you to set up an appointment prior to your Advising & Registration Day
  2. Register for Courses!
    • On the morning of your assigned Advising & Registration Day, your hold will be lifted so you can register for courses.
    • Your Advisor will discuss the registration process with you during your meeting.

Incoming First Time, First Year students interested in switching to Pre-Nursing: You will need to be Undeclared until you meet the requirements to switch to Pre-Nursing. Students interested in switching to Pre-Nursing will complete the Major Change Form on the University Center for Undergraduate Advising (UCUA) website.

Incoming transfer students interested in switching to Nursing or Social Work: Unfortunately, you cannot change your major. Both programs require supplemental applications that were due when you applied to the university. Admission to the programs is closed. You are not eligible to pursue the Nursing or Social Work Bachelor's program if you were not admitted to the university as a transfer directly into that program. We encourage you to explore graduate programs in these fields after you complete your Bachelor's degree at CSULB.

If you are changing your major into a program within CHHS, please complete our Degree Objective Change Form. If you are changing your major into a program outside of CHHS, please find the advising center for your intended major and follow their process to change your major.

New students will meet with your Advisor on your Assigned Advising & Registration Day. You'll receive detailed information sent to your BeachMail account by the morning of your Advising & Registration Day. View the "Advising & Registration Process" section above for details.
