Welcome to the Child and Family Center at CSULB

*Thank you for contacting the Child and Family Center, a laboratory training facility serving the Child Development and Family Studies area within the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.  We are currently closed and will be closed for a large renovation project which will take approximately 18 months. When we reopen, we will be welcoming the children of CSULB students, faculty, staff and the local community. We look forward to seeing you in our new state-of-the-art laboratory. Please read our full statement about the temporary closure of the Child and Family Center. Unfortunately during this time there will be no working staff to field calls or questions about the Center. All updates will be posted on this site. Thank you again.

Construction Update

Renovation and expansion of the FCS Child Care facility began in Fall 2023. During excavation and earthwork, previously unknown storm drains, communications, and power lines were discovered below the footprint of the new addition. These utilities are vital to both the university and the adjacent VA Medical Center and, after an assessment, it was determined that most of these lines cannot be rerouted. Consequently, a redesign of the foundation for the expansion is underway, along with related permitting. These construction delays will push the opening of the Center to the 2025-2026 Academic Year.
