College of Education Commencement 2017 Information

Commencement ceremony registration is mandatory and is found at the CSULB Commencement website.

Frequently Asked Questions

The College of Education Commencement will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd at 5:00 pm.  Graduates are encouraged to arrive on campus one hour before the start of the ceremonyOnce the ceremony begins, graduates and guests are asked to turn off their cell phones and graduates are expected to remain for the entire ceremony.

Graduates will line up in the following order:

          Doctoral Graduates

          Masters Graduates in Educational Leadership (EDLD)

          Masters Graduates in Advanced Studies in Education & Counseling (ASEC)

          Masters Graduates in Teacher Education (TED)

          Credential Graduates

          Liberal Studies Graduates (ITEP and Track I)

Doctoral graduates do not wear their hoods into the ceremony. The hoods are draped over the left arm until they are placed on the graduates by the faculty hooders.

All graduates will fill out yellow registration cards with their names spelled phonetically on the back for the faculty who will read their names.

Undergraduates wear their light blue tassel on the right side of the cap.  Graduates wear their gold tassel on the left side of the cap. Credential graduates wear undergraduate caps and gowns, not Masters hoods.

Students who have filed a Request to Graduate BEFORE the deadlines for a term within the current academic year: Fall 2016, Winter 2016, Spring 2017, and Summer 2017, will be invited by mail to attend the 2017 ceremonies and will have their names included in the Commencement Program.  Students filing after the deadlines are not guaranteed inclusion in the program.  Fall 2017 candidates’ names will appear in the 2018 program.

Credential Students whose credentials were issued in Summer 2016, Fall 2016, or Spring 2017 will be listed in the program. The Credential Center makes every effort to list all Spring 2017 credential candidates who are enrolled and in good standing at the time of publication.

A reception for the College of Education graduates will be held from 7:00-9:00 pm following the Commencement Ceremony in the University Student Union.

The ceremony can be watched on large television screens located in the air conditioned Lecture Halls (LH room 150 & 151) and Peterson Hall 1 (PH1 room 140 & 141). The Medical Tent is located at the northeast corner of the event for emergency medical assistance.
