About Equity, Education, and Social Justice

The Masters in Equity, Education and Social Justice is an interdisciplinary program that utilizes critical approaches to understand and analyze the relationship between education and society–both locally and globally–with an emphasis on effecting social change.

The program has 2-year and 3-year tracks available. Once admitted to the program, students select their track.  Please see the program description website for more information.

No, this program does not lead to earning a teaching credential. If you are interested in earning a teaching credential, please contact the CSULB Teacher Preparation Advising Center (TPAC). CSULB does not offer any programs that combine a teaching credential and master's degree. 

Applying

The GPA requirement is a minimum 3.00 overall grade point average in last degree (not credential or certificate) earned from an accredited institution of higher education.  Applicants whose overall GPA is less than 3.00 but meet the University minimum GPA requirement (2.50) and who present compelling evidence of academic and professional potential either through recent academic performance and/or experiential background, will be considered for admission at the discretion of the program admission committee. The application deadline is also the deadline for the letters of recommendation. Please note there is a short buffer period in which recommender(s) may submit evaluations after the application deadline. Please make sure your recommender submits the recommendation as close to the deadline as possible for full consideration. Graduate school fees are set by the CSU Board of Trustees each academic year. The current fee structure may be found on the Enrollment Services website. The approximate cost as of Fall 2023 ranges from $15,138 to $15,930 for the entire EESJ program for California residents (fees based on 2 or 3 year tracks).  Please note that there are additional fees associates with the program, including but not limited to parking and textbooks.

Degree Requirements

Courses are typically offered each semester on one or two weekday evenings starting at 4:00PM or 7:00PM.
