Subject Matter Waiver Evaluations

CSU Chancellor's Office Executive Order 1077 grants CSU campuses the authority to evaluate transcripts from non-CSU, non CTC-approved subject matter programs for subject matter competency in exceptional cases only.  If you plan to use coursework from a non-CSU, non CTC-approved program to complete all or part of your Single Subject Credential Program at CSULB, please see your subject area advisor regarding your subject matter requirement. For a list of approved subject area programs, you may view the CTC website

You may request a subject matter evaluation if you completed an approved subject matter preparation program or completed a degree in the same subject area in which you are requesting the evaluation.  Please note that earning a bachelor's degree does not mean you automatically meet subject matter competency.  We cannot process any incomplete evaluation requests.  To request the evaluation, submit the following to our office in EED, Room 67:

•   Subject Matter Waiver Evaluation Form  Subject Matter Waiver Evaluation Form (PDF)
•   Copies of official transcripts that include relevant courses
•   The evaluation fee, if applicable (cash or Money Order only, NO Personal Checks)

Evaluations take approximately 4-6 weeks to be processed during the Fall and Spring semesters. Please allow longer processing time during the summer.  The results will be emailed to you.  If you have any questions about which programs we evaluate, please feel free to contact our office directly.
