Fake News in Context: Dr. Lesley Farmer's Recent Publication

Published January 26, 2021

Congratulations to Dr. Lesley Farmer on her recent publication, Fake News in Context.

Fake News in Context defines fake news and sets it within a historical and international context. Helping readers to become more skilled at detecting misinformation, the book also demonstrates how such knowledge can be leveraged to facilitate more effective engagement in civic education. Curricula is also provided.

Sharing why she thought this book is so critical for today's world, Dr. Farmer said, "As this last year has proven, fake news and other disinformation have life-or-death consequences. We all need to be able to discern the validity of news and other media messages in order to be informed decision-makers -- and contributing citizens. Especially as fake news is likely to disparage BICOP, immigrants, and other marginalized groups, voicing truth by and about diverse populations is vital. This book discusses the issues and provides strategies for dealing with fake news."
