As part of the campus-wide Day at The Beach, the College of Engineering Showcase is a free opportunity for Fall 2024 first-time, first-year and transfer students. For one day only, participants and their families are invited to take an in-depth look at the college. It’s a chance to meet some of the faculty and students, learn more about our degree programs and possibly even tour a couple of our cutting-edge laboratories. This is an open house experience and is not considered an official orientation.

Please RSVP with Day at The Beach to attend the campus-wide event. No additional RSVP is required for the Engineering Showcase.

10:00am-10:30am

The Dean of the College of Engineering welcomes students and their families to the 2024 Engineering Showcase and gives a brief overview of engineering at CSULB.

10:00am-3:00pm

Over 100 different CSULB resources will be tabling at the Resource Fair. Come walk down Friendship Walk and explore all of these resources:

Representatives from various engineering student organizations will be out showcasing some of their projects and talking about what their organizations do as well as the knowledge they’ve gained by participating in their organization.

All of our COE Departments will be available in an informal setting to answer your questions and help you learn about the programs they offer. You can expect to meet representatives from the following departments and programs:

  • Biomedical Engineering (BME)
  • Chemical Engineering (ChE)
  • Civil Engineering (CE), Construction Management (CEM), and Environmental Engineering (ENV)
  • Computer Engineering and Computer Science (CECS)
  • Electrical Engineering (EE), Electronics Engineering Technology (EET), and Computer Engineering Technology (CET)
  • Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE)

11:00am: BME in VEC 115, ChE in EN2 103, and ME in ECS 105

12:00pm: AE in VEC 115 and CECS in ECS 105

AE, BME, CECS, ChE, and ME will be hosting a dept. overview presentation of the programs they offer. They will be available to answer your questions and help you learn about the programs they offer.

Note: Seats are limited. If you aren’t able to attend a department overview presentation, you can meet the department faculty in the VEC Quad.  CE and EE will not be hosting a presentation, but they will have representatives available in the VEC Quad.

10:50am, 11:50am, 12:50pm

The following College of Engineering departments will be showcasing their labs during lab tours. Guests can sign up for tours at the corresponding departments. Due to lab capacity restrictions however, tour reservations will be limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Note: The Lab Tours are extremely popular, please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure you don't miss out

Students from the different COE disciplines will be talking about their engineering experiences in the College of Engineering at CSULB. They will also be available to answer questions from the audience.

ESSC Advising Presentation: ESSC advisors will be presenting an overview of ESSC and the services they offer. They will review the necessary steps for students to prepare for their first semester, such as completing ALEKS and submitting AP scores, along with their majors' MSDRs, etc. They will also be available to answer questions about ESSC Advising.

First-Year Experience and BESST/BeachXP (For freshmen only!):Program coordinators for First-Year Experience and BESST/BeachXP will review resources available to FTFY freshmen and discuss the BESST/BeachXP learning communities, eligibility requirements, and share student success stories. 

  • The First-Year Experience Office is the college of Engineering's one-stop-shop that assists all COE first-year students with finding their place here at The Beach. Come learn about the holistic support and strategic programming that they offer. After all, it's hard to know what you don't know, but the COE First Year Experience Office is here to help!
  • The BESST/Beach XP Program fosters learning communities by placing students in cohorts where they take core classes together. This collaborative approach enables students to connect, build relationships, and support one another. BESST/BeachXP further enhances student engagement through monthly socials, providing opportunities to interact with peers, mentors, and professors. As a result, students experience greater success in their math courses and academic careers.

Before the Event

Your college experience will be more than just going to class. Before coming to the event, we encourage you to explore the opportunities available at Cal State Long Beach, where you will be able to immerse yourself in faculty-mentored research, join other students in clubs and organizations, and much more.
