DR. MEHRAN RAHMANI, PE

Dr. Mehran Rahmani joined the CSULB Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Management Department as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2017. He obtained his PhD in Structural and Earthquake Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC) in 2014, MS in Electrical Engineering from USC in 2013, MS in Structural Engineering from Sharif University of Technology (Iran) in 2009, and BS in Civil Engineering from University of Mazandaran (Iran) in 2006. Prior to joining CSULB, Dr. Rahmani worked as a Senior Engineer for Weidlinger Associates from 2014-15, and as a Project Engineer for Thornton Tomasetti from 2015-2017, working for the Forensic Engineering and Structural Design divisions. Dr. Rahmani is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of California.

Dr. Rahmani's research focuses on structural system identification, structural health monitoring and earthquake damage detection of buildings using sensory data. His PhD research was focused on developing a wave-based methodology for remote post-earthquake structural damage detection that is robust when applied to actual structures, and is calibrated using data from full-scale buildings. Dr. Rahmani's research interests also include soil-structure interaction and seismic performance-based design. Dr. Rahmani has authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed technical papers. He is an active member of professional societies including ASCE, EERI, and ACI, and also a technical reviewer for several earthquake engineering journals.
