Dr. Vahid Balali joined the CSULB Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Management as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2016. He obtained his Ph.D in Civil Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2015.
Dr. Balali's research focuses on the (1) visual data sensing and analytics for AEC industry, (2) virtual design and construction for infrastructure asset management and interoperable system integration, and (3) smart cities in transportation for sustainable infrastructure decision-making. He received the ASCE Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering Outstanding Reviewer Award in 2016 and 2017, was one of Consulting Specifying Engineer's (CSE) 40 Under 40 in 2017, and was named an Engineering News Record (ENR) California Top Young Professional in 2017. Dr. Balali also received the 2014 Second Best Poster Award from the Construction Research Congress (CRC), and 2013 CMAA National Capital Chapter Scholarship Award.
He is currently an associate member of ASCE and CMAA, committee member of the ASCE Data Sensing and Analysis (DSA) and ASCE Visual Information Modeling and Simulation (VIMS) committees, and friend member of relevant TRB committees. He is also serving on the editorial board of the American Journal of Civil and Architectural Engineering and reviewer of several top-notch journals. He is actively collaborating with industrial partners and is involved in professional and outreach activities.
