Reading FAQs

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)requires that teachers holding a valid California Teaching credential complete three years of full-time teaching experience and coursework from a CTC-accredited program before applying for the Reading and Literacy Added Authorization. You may apply to this Reading Authorization Program during your third year of teaching and simultaneously complete your third year of teaching while completing the 15 units of this program. Or you may complete this program before you have had three years of full-time teaching experience. In this case, you have to just wait until you have had three years of teaching, and then you can apply for the Reading and Literacy Added Authorization. Please see http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/creds/reading-cert.html

You can take EDRG 540 Advanced Studies in Literacy before being officially admitted into the Reading Authorization Program.
