Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute

The Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI) is a leadership program developed by the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) designed to stimulate personal growth, leadership, and ethical decision-making in California law enforcement front-line supervisors.

Graduates of SLI have the ability to earn college credit upon completion of the program through CSULB's College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE).

Starting with class 414 the SLI graduates will be eligible for Graduate level credit.  More information will be available soon.

FAQ

You are eligible for 9 upper division undergraduate units in three courses: 3 units in CRJU 410: Police Administration, 3 units in CRJU 490: Special Topics in Criminal Justice in Police Leadership, and 3 units in CRJU 497: Independent Study. When you register for the course you must register for all three courses. You cannot split them up into 3 or 6 unit increments.

First you must contact Hillary Edwards (562-985-4940 to place your name on the wait list for the next available cohort. At this time you will be provided with an application for the College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE). Once your application and payment is received you will be placed in the queue for the next section of the course. Each cohort must have 16 applicants before the class can begin. The classes coincide with the summer semester. 

The cost per unit is $99, the total cost is $891.  The college is waiving the registration fees for this course.

Each student will be required to upload their written assignments for each of the eight sessions, including your adaptive leadership final project (not just the executive summary), to BeachBoard, the campus’ e-learning environment. Before the course begins you will be given instructions on how to upload your materials to the website. Two instructors from the School of Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Emergency Management will review each assignment and grade them on a credit/no credit basis. College credits are earned based on your work performed during the course and enrollment in this cohort.

You must apply for credit while you are attending SLI.

Yes, college transcripts are available upon completion of the course, through CSULB Enrollment Services.
