Janette Garfias Marcus

Janette Garfias Marcus, LCSW, joined the School of Social Work in 2023 under the California Title IV-E Education Program. Janette serves as a Practicum Consultant for the Title IV-E Program, supporting the education and training of future social workers. Janette helps prepare MSW students for careers in public child welfare agencies across California. Her responsibilities include recruiting and monitoring practicum placements, guiding students through job search efforts, and fostering collaboration between students, agency instructors, and faculty to ensure the successful completion of student practicum. She leads training seminars for practicum instructors and facilitates orientation sessions. Additionally, Janette provides support to students enrolled in the Distance Education MSW Program at CSU, Sonoma, and CSU, Channel Islands and collaborates with local Site Coordinators. Her role includes helping students navigate practicum placements and supporting students who are part of the Title IV-E stipend. 

Before joining the School of Social Work, Janette worked as a Psychiatric Social Worker II for the LA County Department of Mental Health. She provided mental health services and resources to children, adults, and families in low-income communities across LA County. Janette also served as a Clinical Therapist for the Integrated Care Program at Wellnest, where she served children, teens, adults, and older adults who struggled with mental health and general medical conditions. Before earning her MSW degree, Janette provided case management services and served as an employment specialist for families participating in the CalWORKs program.
