Mission Statement

Academic Advising aims to enrich the lives of students by empowering and equipping them with the knowledge and skills to navigate university degree requirements, engage in meaningful academic experiences, and achieve academic progress and success. Academic Advising promotes and supports curricular and co-curricular experiences that facilitate intentional student self-discovery and future goals in alignment with the university’s mission and values.  

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will identify the roles of academic advisors in the context of campus student support resources and their individual needs.
  • Students will locate college-based and specialized advising offices and access advising support as appropriate.
  • Students will create short-term and long-term academic plans by navigating self-service tools, including the Academic Requirements Report, Degree Planner, Course History, and Transfer Credit Report.
  • Students will demonstrate familiarity with requirements for graduation, including GPA, units, General Education, GWAR, and major requirements.
  • Students will integrate academic policy, including academic warning, grade forgiveness, educational leaves, course withdrawals, and timely graduation as appropriate in the context of degree progress.
  • Students in pre-majors will identify requirements for major declaration and use major exploration resources as appropriate.
  • Students will demonstrate their ability to register for classes and clear holds, using self-service enrollment tools.
  • Students will integrate internship, career, and graduate school resources to explore the ways in which their studies relate to their interests and professional options.
  • Students will be able to identify resources such as:
    • Academic resources, including faculty office hours, tutoring, and academic coaching
    • Student life resources, including student organizations, events, and co-curricular activities
    • Wellness and self-discovery resources
