The Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program prepares individuals for a career as a certified athletic trainer. Athletic trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. The services provided are preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic Training is recognized by the American Medical Association as a healthcare profession. The Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) is a full-time, cohort-model program.

he Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice will expand and increase individual competency, develop and mature thought processes, aid in gaining insights into professional leadership and knowledge, permit exchange between students and faculty, and further the spirit of research and scholarship to enhance professional and personal development. The M.S. provides the requisite knowledge and opportunity for individuals: (1) to be competitive for administrative positions in the courts, corrections, law enforcement, security, probation, and parole; (2) to fill research positions in criminal justice agencies; (3) to pursue advanced degrees (J.D. or Ph.D.); and (4) to fill community college teaching positions in criminal justice.

The Master of Science in Emergency Services Administration (EMER) degree program at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is fully online and prepares graduates for organizational leadership and senior-level positions across the emergency services sector.

The Masters of Science in Gerontology program provides a flexible interdisciplinary curriculum that gives new and seasoned professionals the competencies necessary for success in the field of aging. It provides experiential as well as didactic graduate education and professional training in gerontology for individuals planning to become professionals in public and private agencies.

The Mission of the CSULB Master of Science in Health Care Administration program is to enhance the profession through education and research by preparing early and mid-level professionals to meet the needs of the dynamic health care system and to become future health care leaders in the United States and beyond. The program provides essential learning opportunities with a focus on diversity, and culturally appropriate, patient-centered service delivery systems to address the needs of a global health care marketplace.

The Graduate Center for Public Policy and Administration offers the Master of Public Administration degree; Options in the degree program include Public Works Administration and Urban Affairs. The Center’s graduate-level programs are designed with a professional emphasis and a recognized need to provide course work that will increase the student’s competency in public administrative processes and analysis. The Center’s curriculum also is designed to emphasize the student’s ability to apply new knowledge, skills, and leadership techniques to the solution of public problems.

The Master of Public Health in Community Health provides an opportunity for students to:

  • Specialize in community health education and health promotion within the general context of Public Health
  • Increase competence in designing, implementing, and evaluating social behavior changes programs in preparation for serving in various health agencies

The School of Nursing offers a Master of Science in Nursing with Nurse Practitioner Specialty Areas:

 The Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) is offered through the Southern California CSU DNP Consortium including the campuses of CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, and CSU Los Angeles. The DNP is a professional practice degree designed to prepare advanced practice nurses for complex practice and leadership roles in the clinical setting as well as teaching roles at California's community colleges and at the California State University. Students admitted into the program will be able to draw on faculty expertise across three large institutions.

The Master of Science in Nutritional Science program offers interdisciplinary study in the field of nutrition that allows students to develop particular competencies related to their career aspirations. The program offers four emphases: Nutritional Science, Latino Health and Nutrition, Food Science, and Dietetic Internship.

The Department of Physical Therapy aims to prepare entry-level physical therapists, who demonstrate exemplary critical thinking and clinical skills and are able to address the societal needs of a diverse community while adhering to the evolving professional standards of practice.

Graduate study in Recreation Administration prepares students for advanced careers in the field of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. Through a combination of online and traditional classroom instruction, students explore the theoretical foundations of the field while developing the administrative and management skills needed to become managers of private, commercial, and public recreation agencies. Students may also focus on research design and methodology in preparation for a research-based position and/or doctoral studies.

The MSW program prepares students for advanced generalist social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Graduates are prepared for advanced practice in one of the following areas of specialization: Child and Family Wellbeing, Adulthood and Aging, or Integrated Health.

The primary purpose of CSULB’s Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Program is to prepare students as professional speech-language pathologists. The Masters of Arts degree (M.A.) in Speech-Language Pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as well as the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).  Students in the CSULB SLP M.A. program will complete all of the academic and clinical practicum requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by ASHA and will be eligible for the Clinical Rehabilitative Services Credential issued by the CCTC.
