Welcome to the Future of CHHS - New Facilities Model

CHHS Lab

CHHS is dedicated to eliminating barriers to interdisciplinary research and to building community health partnerships. We believe that our university is better and stronger when we share resources and work together. The CHHS core laboratories are ready to support investigators and healthcare professionals by providing access to world class facilities, expert collaborators, and trained technical support staff.

Faculty members interested in signing up for, and being part of, one of the labs will fill out an online application and then undergo training on the lab before approval into the space. The application is dependent on faculty and anyone in their research team -- such as graduate students or co-PI’s -- to undergo this training before approval.

The new Shared Labs in CHHS include the Biophysiology and Metabolic Labs in the Kinesiology building, as well as the New Behavioral and Social Sciences Lab in SSPA 007.

"This lab is outfitted with state-of-the art equipment for facilitating and recording both individual and group data collection activities, including focus groups," said Dr. Grace Reynolds-Fisher, CHHS Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Research.

“This new facilities model will engender that interdisciplinary communication between departments in CHHS,” said Steven Irby, CHHS’ New Facilities Lead and Safety Officer. “Because people will be meeting regularly and talking about their projects, hearing about other people’s research, it will spark innovation, and I think that’s the real driving force here with this new facilities model.”

The newly renovated spaces that are ready for use as shared labs will be monitored by the Facilities Support Group (FSG) within CHHS, which includes the expertise from Steven Irby, Charles Merritt, Taylor Dinius and Sergio Mendoza -- who all serve as technicians and support coordinators within the college.
