Onora Hatchette has been consistently active in the Criminal Justice Student Association and is the president of the student-run organization. She also has participated alongside Dr. Christine Scott-Hayward in collecting qualitative data used within the courtroom and a very hands-on internship experience.

“I was assigned to a special agent within Homeland Security Investigations and granted an in-depth integrated experience of federal investigations, evidence collecting, victim interviewing, and teamwork and collaboration with Assistant United States Attorneys.”

Onora says that her dream of wanting to work in the criminal justice system started at a very early age.

“Ever since I was in kindergarten, I wanted to be a part of the criminal justice system. Through the years, I have been interested in many careers pertaining to the field (law enforcement, lawyer, judge, bailiff). I will pursue a career within federal law enforcement and ensure the safety of the public, our families, and our country. In order to do so I will strengthen my criminological theory while also enhancing my skills while in the field.

One of the most important lessons Onora says she learned during her college career was the importance of seeking opportunity.

“Nothing in life is given to you. If you want to better your skills and understanding about something you must ask questions and put yourself out there. There is nothing you cannot accomplish if you prioritize and believe in your desires. In doing so, there will be both obstacles and failures; but what comes with failures are inevitable successes.”

Onora adds that she is very grateful for the help and support she had from the criminal justice department.

“The continuous and endearing support from all professors and faculty have undeniably helped and guided me during the completion of my degree. I could not have done it without them.”
