Application Process

Thank you for your interest in Graduate Degree and Advanced Credential programs offered by the CSULB College of Education!  We are pleased that you are considering furthering your education at CSULB.

General Admissions Process

  • Use Cal State Apply to submit CSULB university application by the university application deadline and pay a non-refundable $70 fee
  • Use MyCED to submit program application materials by the MyCED program application deadline (see program website for MyCED deadline and specific documents required)
  • Submit your official transcripts to Enrollment Services
  • Await notification

Important: you may submit one graduate program application per CSU campus.  If you are unsure about which program is best for you, contact the College of Education Graduate Studies Office.

Please note that the Graduate Studies Office uses email as the official means of communication; applicants are required to maintain a current email address on file and check their email regularly. Please be sure to inform the Graduate Studies Office via email of any changes in your email address and/or telephone number.

You may also check the status of your admission application by visiting the Applicant Self-Service webpage.

Use Cal State Apply to apply and be sure to complete all components of the application by the published deadline.

The Cal State Apply dashboard is divided into four sections:

  • Personal Information: contact information, biographic information and financial information, etc.
  • Academic History: colleges attended, GPAs, etc.; do not hand-enter transcript information
  • Supporting Information: enter “I am not adding any experiences”
  • Program Materials: enter “I am not adding any documents” these will be submitted in MyCED, not Cal State Apply

Please refer to the tutorial on the GSO Tutorials and Tips for Applying website for tips on filling out these sections of Cal State Apply.

Lastly, there is a non-refundable $70 application fee. Your application will not be processed until this fee has been paid. Please note that the CSU system does not offer a fee waiver for graduate level applications.

For technical assistance with Cal State Apply, please contact the Cal State Apply Help Desk:  (857) 304-2087, CalStateApply@liaisoncas.com or visit the Cal State Apply Applicant Help Center.  Cal State Apply Application Support is available Monday – Friday, 6AM – 5PM PT.

Important: you may only apply to one graduate program per CSU.  If you are unsure about which program is best for you, contact the Graduate Studies Office.

After you complete and submit the university application, please upload supplementary program application materials via MyCED by the MyCED program application deadline.

Please visit the College of Education Program Application Deadlines page and select the program you are interested in applying to. On the program website, click on the Application Process menu and then Online Application Submission to find the MyCED program application deadline and required Program Application materials (statement of purpose prompt, letters of recommendation, etc.)

Please note all Program Materials must be submitted by the published MyCED program application deadline.

Submit official transcripts from the college or university from which you earned your bachelor's degree. IF you earned your degree at CSULB you do not need to submit a transcript.

Please submit transcripts to the university by the application deadline (or earlier). If you are still in-progress with your bachelor’s degree, then please send an official transcript showing classes earned up to this point (coursework in progress is okay); those whom are offered admission to the program will send a final transcript showing that the degree was earned no later than Fall 2023 for Spring 2024 admission, or Summer 2024 for Fall 2024 admission. Please find below specific instructions for submitting official transcripts for:

  1. Domestic Colleges and Universities
  2. Foreign Colleges and Universities

Please do not send originals or copies of transcripts to the College of Education Graduate Studies Office.
