Daisy D. Alfaro, Ph.D.
Dr. Daisy D. Alfaro is the Assistant Director of the CSULB College of Education Assessment and Accreditation Office (AAO). She leads the college’s accreditation, assessment, and reporting efforts to inform data-driven decision-making and continuous program improvement. Prior to CSULB, she held positions at Compton College, Families in Schools non-profit, and was the founding program coordinator and faculty member of the Ed.D. in Higher Education at Cal State LA.
Dr. Alfaro’s research focuses on issues of equity, access, and success for Latinx students throughout the P-20 (prekindergarten to post-college) continuum. She has written about the academic resilience of Latinx law students, parent engagement in higher education, and data-informed decision-making in leadership. In recognition of her scholarship and service, Dr. Alfaro received the 2013 Woman of Distinction Award in Education by the California State Assembly, La Opinión Newspaper 2014 Mujeres Destacadas Award in Education, and the CED Outstanding Teamwork Award (2023, 2024).
Dr. Alfaro was born in Lynwood, CA, to two working-class immigrant parents. She was raised hearing of her parents’ hope for a better life and sacrifices so she could have opportunities they never had. This inspired her own journey from Lynwood’s public schools, UCLA, New York University, and on to the University of Washington, where she earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in Higher Education.
