Remembering Dr. Tracy Tolbert

 

The College of Health and Human Services wishes to express deep condolences on the news of the passing of Dr. Tracy Tolbert, a beloved full-time lecturer in the School of Criminology, Criminal Justice & Emergency Management, who passed away unexpectedly in early March 2026. Tracy was known for her authenticity and clarity—she spoke directly, held high standards, and cared deeply about her students. She brought honesty, laughter, and compassion into the classroom, and many students knew they could count on her to tell the truth and stand beside them.

 

Her work focused on crime, inequality, and the barriers women face in reporting sexual violence. Tracy earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from the University of Southern California and devoted her career to teaching, mentoring, and advocating for those whose voices are too often unheard.
