The Movement Analysis Integrated Project Presentations in December cultivated the hard work and dedication of our Doctor of Physical Therapy Class of 2028 cohort. Students demonstrated their ability to not only learn about movement across the lifespan, biomechanics, and motor learning/control in their didactic courses -- as well as integrated labs -- but also how to apply it to their future patient care, by analyzing all of these components from the coursework through the movement tasks. For example, a sit to stand or step down demonstration, which were performed by 2 clients for each task: a child and an older adult. First-year Doctor of Physical Therapy students were able to take course material and transform the information to create meaning to the clients being analyzed, which will greatly impact the way students will guide their own patient care in the future. Many groups also decided to integrate information from other courses, such as physiology/pharmacology, to understand the client through the client’s history screening.
Overall, this project has created a sense of knowledge and confidence in the D1 class with analyzing and understanding movement, which is a pivotal skill needed as a physical therapist. As future physical therapists, our students will take this experience and aim to transform society by optimizing the health of everyone in our community!
