Program Application Deadlines

The College of Education offers 14 Master's Degree and 4 Advanced Credential programs. Deadlines vary by program. The Cal State Apply online application closes at midnight Pacific Standard Time on the deadline date. Please note that all program application materials will be submitted online through Cal State Apply.

The first day to apply for Fall 2021 admission is October 1, 2020. Please click your program of interest below to view the application deadline and for a link to the program’s website with more information about the application process.

The first day to apply for Spring 2021 admission is August 1, 2020.   Please note that only two programs are open for Spring 2021 admission: Educational Technology and Media Leadership (MA in Education) and Teacher Librarian Services advanced credential.

Request to be added to the prospective student list for your program of interest. Please visit Graduate Studies Office homepage for our hours of operation, and note that we are not available on the weekends.

Counseling Psychology (MS in Counseling Psychology) (formerly Marriage & Family Therapy)

Prepares therapists for licensed independent practice to work in private practice, community-agency settings, government-court settings, hospitals and clinics, employee assistance programs, and city-county-state agencies to provide counseling services for adults, children, families, and couples.

Curriculum & Instruction: Elementary (MA in Education)

Prepares teacher leaders and curriculum specialists to develop theoretical understanding and critical analytical skills in the design, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment in K-6 schools.

Curriculum & Instruction: Secondary (MA in Education)

Dual Language Development (MA in Education)

Develops instructional leaders who examine literacy and language development of native English speakers, bilingual speakers, English language learners, and speakers of non-standard English in grades K-12 and adult education.

Early Childhood Education (MA in Education)

Prepares educators, leaders and policy advocates to understand children from birth to age 8 and management of early childhood organizations in a variety of culturally and linguistically diverse educational settings.

Educational Administration (MA in Educational Administration) and Preliminary Administrative Services credential

Equips leaders to serve as principals or other school administrators in order to maximize the academic achievement of diverse K-12 grade students in an educational organization.

Educational Technology & Media Leadership (MA in Education)

Provides foundations and practical skills for career growth in settings that use educational technologies and e-learning. Students include K-12 teachers, university staff and faculty, school librarians, technology coordinators, and educational media developers.

Social & Cultural Analysis of Education (MA in Education)

An interdisciplinary program that utilizes critical approaches to understand and analyze the relationship between education and society–both locally and globally–with an emphasis on effecting social change.

School Counseling (MS in Counseling) and PPS credential in School Counseling

Prepares school counselors to support all students academic, social/emotional, and career success. The  program also prepares effective leaders, advocates, collaborators, and systems change agents to work in diverse K-12 schools.

School Psychology (Educational Specialist Degree) and PPS credential in School Psychology

Develops highly trained professional who help children and youth succeed academically, behaviorally, emotionally, and socially via prevention and intervention supports. These services are provided to students as well as educators and families who care for them.

Student Development in Higher Education (MS in Counseling)

Develops community college and university professionals who understand the needs of college students from diverse backgrounds, and collaborate with faculty and campus stakeholders to promote holistic development of students.

Special Education (MS in Special Education)

Strengthens graduate students’ depth of understanding of service delivery models for individuals with disabilities, develops scholars’ ability to critically examine emerging research and practice to develop high quality intervention programs in special education, and builds future change agents and leaders.

Reflects a broad, foundational, research-oriented discipline focused on learning and development, evidence-based practices, program evaluation, and student assessment in education.

Enhance the knowledge and skills in content and pedagogy by investigating research-based teaching and learning strategies, assessment, integration of technology, and developing mathematics instruction that focuses on conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem solving.
