Applying for your Initial Teaching Credential

Spring 2026 Completers

If you have completed all credential requirements listed on your credential evaluation, please follow the steps listed below to be recommended for your Preliminary Credential.

Step 1:

  • Complete the CED Exit Survey and CSU Exit Survey as soon as possible, but no later than June 30th. Take screenshots of both survey completion confirmations with your name and/or ID included for uploading to Step 2
  • Ensure all grades have posted
  • ITEP: Ensure your degree has posted. You will receive an email from the university once your degree has posted
  • Single Subject: Ensure all midterm and final evaluations from your University Supervisor and Cooperating Teacher(s) have been submitted in S4 @ The Beach by June 10th.
    • Log into S4 @ The Beach (even if the S4 button is no longer visible in Single Sign On, you can still access S4 directly using this link and your SSO login).
    • Send the Final Evaluation link to your Cooperating Teacher(s). The link is located under your EDSS 472/572B placement, just as your midterm evaluations were. An email will be sent to your cooperating teacher(s) from noreply @ calstates4.com.

Step 2: Submit a Request for Credential Recommendation

  • If all credential requirements have been met, fill out our Request for Recommendation form and attach the following items by July 8th:
    • Exit Survey screenshots
    • Any missing items (e.g. CPR, U.S. Constitution) that were highlighted on your credential evaluation and have now been completed
    • CalTPA/Program Clearances/Grades/Degree do not need to be uploaded

Step 3: Credential Recommendation

  • Your Request for Recommendation will be routed to a CSULB Credential Analyst who will determine if your file is complete and will submit an online credential recommendation to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)

Step 4: Online Application

  • Watch for a notification email from the CTC (donotreply @ ctc.ca.gov)
  • Follow the instructions in the email from the CTC directing you to complete your portion of the online recommendation/application and payment. Step by step guide is available on the CTC's Complete Your Recommendation page

Step 5: Credential Issuance

  • Within approximately 10 days of completing the online application and submitting payment, the CTC will email you notification that your document has been granted and is available for viewing. Log in to your CTC Educator Profile, click on your credential document number and review your credential carefully. Contact the Student Success and Advising Center at (562) 985-1105 as soon as possible if your document is incorrect, or if you have any questions.
  • Print and/or save copies of all credential licensing documents, exams, evaluations, Final Induction Plan, etc. Many employers request these documents, and you will need the Final Induction Plan when you begin an Induction Program.
