Mentorship Matters: Meet Ishmael Pruitt, SDHE Graduate Student

Published December 10, 2018

For College of Education graduate student, Ishmael Pruitt, mentorship is critical to student success. A student in CED's Student Development in Higher Education program, Pruitt spends most of his time studying and working as a mentor to young males without role models. The importance of mentorship was made apparent to Pruitt when he was almost kicked out of college after his first year. It was at that time that a faculty member provided guidance. Taking this inspiration, Pruitt wants to develop his own “competencies in areas that could contribute to success of minorities in college and in the community.” His career goals include the possibility of becoming Dean of Student Affairs, and later starting a nonprofit organization providing student affairs services to under-resourced middle and high schools.

In the video below, Ishmael Pruitt shares why he applied to the College of Education's Student Development in Higher Education graduate program.
