Dr. Cara Richards Tutor Joins Research Team to Replicate and Examine “Read Well” Program

Dr. Cara Richards Tutor will be a co-Principal Investigator on a $4 million, 5-year study from the Institute of Education Sciences to replicate the “Read Well” program. In addition to Dr. Richards Tutor, the new study will be led by researchers at the University of Virginia and University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Richards Tutor will receive $1 million of this $4 million grant to lead the intervention work in California where she will be working with 3-4 local school districts in the Los Angeles/Orange County area. The Read Well program is an existing reading program that addresses areas of reading, including phonological awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. This new study will replicate Read Well and investigate its impact on first graders who have been identified as having reading difficulties/disabilities. The study will be conducted in California, Texas, and Virginia and will include a cross-section of schools from rural, suburban, and urban areas.
