Dr. Hayes-White Appointed to California’s Advising Commission on Special Education
Dr. Havaughnia Hayes-White, a lecturer in the Advanced Studies in Education and Counseling department, was recently appointed to serve as a Commissioner to the California Department of Education’s Advisory Commission on Special Education (ACSE). She was appointed by the Honorable Anthony Rendon, Speaker of the Assembly. The Commission has four main areas of focus:
- The commission shall study and provide assistance and advice to the State Board of Education, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Legislature, and the Governor in new or continuing areas of research, program development, and evaluation in special education.
- Advise the Superintendent of Public Instruction in developing evaluations and reporting on data to the Secretary of Education in the United States Department of Education under Section 1418 of Title 20 of the U.S. Code.
- Advise the Superintendent of Public Instruction in developing corrective action plans to address findings identified in federal monitoring reports under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
- Advise the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education in developing and implementing policies relating to the coordination of services for individuals with exceptional needs.
