Student Spotlight: Priya Sandhu
Congratulations to Health Care Management graduate student Ms. Priya Sandhu for receiving the CAHME/Quint Studer Scholarship for Excellence in Healthcare Mentorship. As a first-generation student, Priya embodies the essence of this award through her dedication to supporting, guiding, and uplifting others.
CAHME award competitions open annually to students in 160+ CAHME accredited graduate programs, which represent the top tier of healthcare management education. From the many high-performing programs, only a handful of students are selected each year for CAHME’s highly selective, prestigious awards.
"As a GradMentor at California State University, Long Beach, Priya provides one-on-one mentoring to students—offering academic guidance, career coaching, and encouragement to help them transition successfully into graduate-level healthcare studies," said Dr. Yang Lu, associate professor and graduate program director in the Department of Health Care Management. "Her approach is both structured and compassionate; she takes time to understand individual goals and actively connects students to resources and opportunities that strengthen their professional readiness."
Beyond her formal mentorship role, Priya continues to lead through example in every capacity. As a Consulting Fellow in the DELTA Scholars Health Leadership Fellowship, she mentors peers in project management and data analysis, fostering confidence and collaboration among emerging healthcare leaders.
She also serves on the ACHE SoCal Student Council, promoting engagement and networking across the healthcare administration community. Priya’s mentorship extends into her professional roles as well—training new hires, streamlining processes, and promoting teamwork at SacENT and during her Mayo Clinic internship.
"Priya's empathy, humility, and ability to empower others makes her an ideal candidate for this Scholarship," Dr. Lu said.
