Our Mission
The Child and Family Center (CFC) is a leading educational program committed to training early childhood professionals in child development and family science. Our mission is to provide comprehensive training that equips student teachers with knowledge, skills, and strategies to support child and family development. We promote early childhood advocacy, influence policy, and advance equitable access to high-quality learning environments by delivering evidence-based, developmentally appropriate, and anti-bias education and care. The CFC empowers families as they navigate the complexities of school, work, and parenting, fostering a thriving and inclusive community. To accomplish this, the CFC:
- Supports student parents, faculty, staff, and families of the community by providing quality childcare services and access to essential educational resources.
- Mentor student teachers to actively observe, participate in, and contribute to children’s daily learning environment by modeling positive, supportive interactions.
- Fosters a lifelong passion for learning by nurturing the skills and values children need for future success.
Our mission is aligned with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, the College of Health and Human Services, and California State University, Long Beach.
