Student Amanda Garcia Honored for UTEACH Essay

Amanda Garcia, a graduate of the UTEACH multiple subject credential program and current student in the Student Development in Higher Education (SDHE) master’s program, was recently honored at the Career Development Center’s Internship Essay Contest Reception. Students who are honored receive a $500 scholarship. Amanda was the honoree for the College of Education, and wrote her essay about serving in the UTEACH program, under the guidance of site supervisors Felipe Golez and Linda Mehlbrech. Amanda's essay focused on the uniqueness of the UTEACH cohort model program. She entered the program with the intention of becoming a teacher; however, she confirmed her passion for counseling when interacting with her cohort. During methods courses, she would connect other student teachers to resources, support and professional development events provided by the College of Education. Based upon her experience, she was compelled to apply to SDHE to further develop her skills working with students in higher education.
