Peer Sharing Strategies That Work
Teaching is a creative profession. Faculty Connections promotes instructors sharing what they do in their classrooms. Here, faculty share some of their most effective teaching practices with micro-explanations.
Inspired by other universities, instructional designers at ATS started this project in 2022. We collaborated with fellow Centers for Teaching and Learning to design something specific for faculty. Each contributor has selected and shared a strategy that meets these criteria:
- Effective: the technique has led to results for students.
- Scalable: the technique can be used effectively by faculty in a variety of content areas.
- Quick-to-implement: faculty share how to put the techniques to use right away, as opposed to taking weeks to plan.
If you would like to contribute a strategy or give feedback, check out how to contribute to Faculty Connections. We recognize there are many departments and teaching objectives that are not represented yet, and we hope you visit the link above to make that happen.
All strategies have been implemented inside in-person and online classes.
When it comes to using technology, we feel it's important to highlight how actual teachers apply them in their classrooms. We have asked contributing faculty to share specific applications and the fastest ways to start seeing benefits because we recognize technology takes time to learn, and is a barrier to many people. For example, see how Dr. Amy Wax explains the Poll Everywhere application.
