Congratulations to College of Education recent alumna Lili Gallegos, who received the California Association of Science Education’s 2021 Future Science Teacher Award! The CASE Future Science Teacher Award recognizes college students who, "demonstrate an interest in and commitment to science education through volunteer, teaching, and professional organization activities, and who show promise to become outstanding science educators."
Gallegos, who is now a substitute teacher in a local school district, plans to become an elementary school teacher and obtain her supplementary authorization in math and science to teach middle school.
Sharing what this award means to her, Gallegos said, “I didn’t think that I would ever enjoy science. This award is validation that I can be successful in teaching science. Coming into college, science was the subject I was the most insecure about, but when I made the effort to understand science education, I started to find a love for science. This award also encourages me to continue to teach science to students in an engaging way.”
