After a career in Feature Animation working on films The Swan Princess, Cats Don't Dance, Hercules, Mulan, and Tarzan, Kim transitioned into writing and illustrating graphic novels. She is on the fourth book of her Surfside Girls graphic novel series (Top Shelf/ IDW) which was picked up by AppleTV as a live-action show. If she's not at her desk or in the classroom, she's probably in the ocean on a surfboard, paddleboard, or boat.

Kim has a passion for the ocean, Southern California, and telling strong female stories. She is interested in inspiring girls to be bold and brave. Her third Surfside Girls book, The Science of Surfing, used her fictional protagonists to explain the physics and biology of the ocean in easy-to-digest terms with watercolor illustrations. She worked with Dr. Chris Lowe of the CSULB SharkLab to keep the science correct and remains a SharkLab fangirl.
