Think Beach
Welcome to Think Beach
Think Beach is CSULB’s first inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The program strives to provide academic growth, career exploration, work experience, and social activities while empowering young adults with IDD (Beach Scholars) to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to become independent and productive citizens. In addition, the program offers these young adults an opportunity to experience life on a college campus while developing self-determination, independent living, and vocational skills.
Mission Statement
Think Beach is an inclusive, postsecondary education program seeking to support a self-determined and fully-inclusive life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities that will lead to competitive, integrated employment.
Vision Statement
Through participation in college classes and campus life activities, students in the Think Beach program will increase their social skills, independence, and self-knowledge. Upon completion of the program, Beach Scholars will have the skills necessary to transition to employment and/or independent living.
"Usually, parents get a diagnosis that their child has an intellectual disability and think they can’t go to college. But we’re here to say they absolutely can go to college.”
