Early Childhood Education Grad Student Heads to Columbia University

Ms. Lana Tran, a recent graduate from the MA in Early Childhood Education program, has been accepted to the Ph.D. in Education Policy program at Columbia University for fall 2021. Lana graduated from the Early Childhood Education master’s program in Spring 2021. During her time at CSULB, she was awarded the Sally Casanova Pre-doctoral Scholarship for the academic year 2020-2021. She is particularly interested in policies related to technology integration in early literacy instruction in preschool classrooms, which was exemplified by her thesis, The role of technology in facilitating young children’s literacy development: A qualitative study with preschool and kindergarten teachers.

During her master’s program, Lana served as a project fellow at CSULB’s Center for Evaluation and Educational Effectiveness evaluating the effectiveness of the Sí Puedo grant for Hispanic-serving institutions to target STEM performance for Latinx and low-income communities. Since 2019, she worked with the Individualizing Student Instruction Lab in the College of Education at University of California, Irvine where her research focused on literacy development for students between kindergarten and third grade.
