Couple Endows Scholarship as Legacy to Parents

Published September 5, 2019

The College of Education has received an endowed scholarship from local educators in memory of both of their parents. The Edward and Dolores King & Edward and Barbara McClean Endowed Award will be offered to a first-generation student enrolled in the College of Education in either the Single Subject or Multiple Subject Credential Program, helping to offset the financial burden that many student teachers face. Understanding the financial impact first-hand by donors Steven King ('76) and Bob McClean, both retired teachers, the scholarship is directed toward students seeking classroom teaching careers. The impact of this new scholarship will help alleviate expenses associated with student teaching allowing the recipient to focus less on the cost of tuition and more on their student teaching experience. This scholarship, created by King and McClean, as a way to honor their parents who supported their careers in education, said they, "...loved their careers as educators and looked often to the lessons of their first teachers, Ed and Dolores King and Ed and Barbara McClean.”
