Panelists will share how they broke into lecturing roles, what qualifications and experience are typically required, and practical tips for succeeding in the classroom while balancing a career outside of academia.

Event Format

  • 45 minutes of moderated Q&A with panelists
  • 15 minutes of small-group breakout rooms, giving you the opportunity to meet panelists individually and rotate between rooms to ask questions and make connections

Panelists Bios: 

Jaid Nabi
Jaid is a Senior Business Strategist at E.G. Sanchez & Associates with over 18 years of experience in accounting, audit, and tax across public accounting, private industry, and government sectors. He holds a Master of Science in Accountancy from CSULB, and specializes in financial statement analysis, tax planning, and strategic advisory services. Prior to joining the firm, Jaid served as an Internal Revenue Agent with the IRS and as a Tax Auditor with the California Franchise Tax Board. He currently also serves as an Adjunct Professor at CSULB, teaching Federal Tax Law and Managerial Accounting.

Charles D Byerly
Charles is an Adjunct Professor of Business Management and Real Estate with experience teaching online, face-to-face, and hybrid courses. He brings over 20 years of experience as a Residential and Investment Real Estate Broker, along with 14 years of corporate management experience. His professional background includes leadership roles in customer care, logistics, demand management, and retail sales within the food manufacturing and home improvement industries. 

Catherine E. Gutierrez
Catherine is a growth-focused marketing executive and advisor with 20 years of experience scaling B2B SaaS and tech-enabled companies. She has served as VP of Marketing and fractional CMO for venture-backed and bootstrapped organizations, leading go-to-market strategy, demand generation, and revenue operations. Catherine is the founder of The CMO Agency and is recognized as a Top 25 CMO, including helping scale Avetta from $10M to $50M ARR prior to its $3B acquisition. She is passionate about mentoring emerging professionals and bringing applied, real-world business experience into the classroom.

Kayla Mock-Schneller

Kayla began her teaching journey as a Graduate Teaching Associate while earning her Master of Arts in Human Communication Studies at CSUF. She has taught communication courses at both CSUF and CSULB while also leading communication, leadership, and employee development workshops for organizations nationwide. Kayla is currently a part-time lecturer in the Master of Science in Sustainability Management and Policy program at CSULB, where she teaches Decision Making and Uncertainty. She is deeply passionate about education and believes knowledge is power in shaping future leaders.
