MS Accountancy

Program Overview

The Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) at the College of Business, CSULB provides the additional 30 units required to complete the 150 semester units required for CPA licensure in California. The MSA also provides advanced knowledge in tax, corporate governance, ethics, and other topics important for accountants in government and industry. The MSA prepares graduates to deal with increases complexity in accounting practice, tax laws, and business methods fueled by new technology. MSA graduates have career opportunities with public accounting firms, corporate entities, financial firms, audit & tax groups, and government/tax authorities.

What is Included?

Orientation

Students are required to participate in a two-day orientation. The focus of the orientation is to prepare the student to work in teams, master the Harvard case discussion method, learn to use Excel, and begin the preparation for their career post-graduation. During the orientation, students get to know faculty, fellow students and alumni of the program and begin to work as teams. The orientation is included in the cost of the program.

CPA Test Preparation

CPA Test preparation package is integrated into the 11-month program so that students can take CPA Exams as soon as they graduate.

Career Services

Career planning and management are an important benefit of the MSA program. Students begin their career planning after they have been admitted and support continues for up to a year after graduation.  Students work with a career advisor on identifying career goals and developing a job search strategy, as well as resume writing, interviewing, and other important career skills.
