Admission to a degree program at California State University, Long Beach depends on which program you are applying to. If you are applying to the B.A. in Art, Art History, or Art Education, then you simply have to be accepted by the University. A portfolio is not required. Transfers are responsible completing the Major Specific Declaration Requirements and CSULB admission criteria.

Admission into the BFA programs require the submission of a portfolio for consideration. Freshman will submit a portfolio closer to their junior year, while Transfers have the option of submitting a portfolio during their admission cycle or as an art major at CSULB.

If your portfolio submission is denied for admittance into the BFA, new transfer students will then be considered for admittance into the BA Studio Art major. Transfer students will then have 1 more attempt for application to the BFA.
