More Than a Closet: A Community That Cares

Published October 22, 2026

The COB Closet, hosted by the Student Center for Professional Development (SCPD), once again demonstrated the power of community in helping students prepare for internships, interviews, career fairs, and first-time job opportunities. This semester's event was a tremendous success, serving 220 students in just 90 minutes. The overwhelming turnout highlighted both the ongoing need for accessible professional resources and the impact the COB Closet has on student confidence and career readiness. More than just clothing, the COB Closet helps remove financial barriers and empowers students to pursue opportunities with confidence. Every suit, blazer, dress shirt, and accessory represents a step toward a student's future. One especially meaningful contribution came from a dedicated CMP mentor who donated 40 suits from his personal collection and attended the event to help students find the right fit. He had the unique opportunity to watch his well-loved suits find new owners and begin a new chapter as students prepare for interviews, internships, and first-time careers. It was a powerful reminder that mentorship can extend far beyond advice and encouragement.

A special thank you to F&M Bank and OLEN for graciously hosting clothing donation boxes at their organizations and encouraging employees to contribute. Their partnership helped expand our inventory and support even more students. We are also grateful to the faculty, staff, alumni, mentors, and community supporters who donated clothing, volunteered their time, assisted students, promoted the event, and helped with logistics. Your generosity helped transform the COB Closet into more than a clothing giveaway, creating a welcoming environment where students felt supported, confident, and prepared for the next step in their professional journey. The COB Closet continues to reflect the COB’s community at its best, coming together to create opportunity, promote equity, and invest in student success.
