My mixed-methods research focuses on youth and family experiences of safety and insecurity across multiple contexts of community violence—locally, cross-culturally, and transnationally. A central aspect of my work is to build partnerships and collaborations with community leaders, local organizations, and scholars in the Latin American region. I integrate scholarship in developmental science, violence and crime prevention science, global studies, and related policies in Central America and the U.S. One line of research examines youth emotional security related to gangs and law enforcement in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Another line of work focused on supporting the capacity building of community violence intervention organizations in Philadelphia, PA, USA. Currently, I’m expanding to examine the role of caregivers in actively protecting their children in the contexts of community violence. My experiences include conducting evaluations of US-funded violence reduction initiatives for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Honduras. 

I love to camp, especially in the winter.
