Oluwaseun Oriretan has a lot to be proud of as she graduates in May with her Master of Science in Health Care Administration degree. After earning her bachelor’s degree in the same field, Oluwaseun jumped right into her master’s program, to deepen her knowledge and strengthen her skills.

“My goal is to use this education to help build more equitable, efficient, and compassionate healthcare systems that better serve my community,” she said.

During her time at CSULB, Oluwaseun worked as an intern for External Quality Strategic Partnerships and BioMarin Pharmaceuticals Inc. Her dream job would be to work for a biotech company. An impressive resume to boot, Oluwaseun was the President of the Upsilon Phi Delta honor society for Health Care Administration, and the President and Founder of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) on campus. She worked as a graduate research assistant, and was part of the California Veteran Health Initiative through the CSULB Research Foundation.

“The most important thing I learned at CSULB was resilience. Graduate school pushed me in many ways, and I learned that challenges are opportunities for growth, not signs to give up. I also learned the importance of asking for help. I realized I cannot do everything on my own, and seeking support from mentors and peers made me stronger. This has shaped how I approach life, with persistence, humility, and a willingness to lean on others when needed.”

Oluwaseun cites Dr. Erlyana as a major source of inspiration and support throughout her time at CSULB.

“She has supported me since I was a junior, consistently guiding and encouraging me, both academically and professionally. Her mentorship has played a major role in my growth and confidence. As an international student from Nigeria without my parents here, having someone like Dr. Erlyana in my corner meant everything. She became not only a mentor but also a strong support system. Her belief in me motivated me to pursue opportunities, challenge myself, and continue striving for excellence.”

Congratulations, Oluwaseun!
