Dr. Rachel Blaine, Nutrition and Dietetics Professor

This fall Dr. Rachel Blaine, Professor from Family and Consumer Science's Nutrition and Dietetics program, was awarded a $70,000 grant from the US State Department's Higher Education Program to support the development of the first nutrition and dietetics training program in Iraq. Currently, there are no training programs for registered dietitian nutritionists or an equivalent role in the country. During this year, Dr. Blaine will support the faculty at Hawler Medical University in Erbil, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with various training activities to learn how to do clinical and public health nutrition training and curriculum development. Four faculty members will come to CSULB in March for a 10-day training visit to observe our programs at CSULB and meet with dietitian nutritionist experts from all over Southern California. Big congrats, Dr. Blaine!
