From the Department of Health Care Administration, and as an international student studying in the United States, Oluwaseun Oriretan, said the most important thing she learned during her time at CSULB is resilience and perseverance, keeping in mind her goals of ultimately wanting to use her gifts and talents to help create a healthier and more equitable healthcare system for all.

Oluwaseun held many extracurricular responsibilities during her time as a student while working towards her Health Care Administration degree, including being in the Health Care Administration Student Forum and the Health Care Administration honor society Upsilon Phi Delta. She also interned for Blue Shield of California as a data analytics intern and worked in the CSU Office of the Chancellor as a sustainability student assistant.

“I chose this career path because of the opportunity it presents to make a difference in the healthcare industry. I particularly have an interest in quality improvement and risk management patient safety. I am interested in the importance of data-driven decision making in healthcare and the crucial role it plays in identifying areas for improvement and implementing evidence-based practices to enhance patient care.”

Oluwaseun said she hopes to serve her community by working directly within healthcare organizations to improve processes and systems, analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement, and develop strategies to enhance patient safety and quality of care. Additionally, she hopes to collaborate with other healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community organizations to address broader healthcare challenges and disparities.

Someone that inspired Oluwaseun during her time at CSULB was Dr. Erlyana.

“Dr. Erlyana provided valuable support and encouragement that allowed me to navigate my academic journey at CSULB. I am grateful to have had such an amazing professor who is committed to student’s growth and development.”
