Beavers' Charitable Trust Funds New Minor in Heavy Civil Engineering

The Hoover Dam. The Golden Gate Bridge. The Mercer Street Tunnel in Seattle. All are examples of Heavy Civil Engineering, a branch of engineering centered around design and construction of airports, bridges, canals, dams, levees, roads, and tunnels.
As infrastructure ages, civil engineers will be needed to manage projects to rebuild, repair, and upgrade structures of all types. To meet California’s growing need, CSULB has partnered with the Beaver’s Charitable Trust— the charitable arm of The Beavers, an organization formed by construction companies and individuals involved in heavy civil construction. The Beavers devotes its resources to assisting students entering the heavy civil industry.
The latest effort includes launching a minor in heavy civil, aiming for Spring 2025.
The grant provided by the organization will help engineering students of all disciplines find pathways to the Heavy Civil Industry. A core component of the minor will include an internship at a relevant construction company, further bridging the gap.
The Beaver’s Charitable Trust has supported several other endeavors at CSULB in recent years, helping to strengthen the program. Annually, the Beavers Scholarships are awarded to students planning to enter the Heavy Civil Construction Industry.
