"A damp cloth, an oyster, a single mirror" - Rebecca Sittler Memorial Exhibition

We are pleased to have an exhibition in honor of Professor Rebecca Sittler, entitled A damp cloth, an oyster, a single mirror - Exhibition in Memory of Rebecca Sittler Schrock. Rebecca Sittler's photographic art explores museum displays and still life objects either assembled and constructed in the studio or found in the world. Whether she is focusing on gendered representations in U.S. presidential museums; exploring the volatility of photography using the Queen Mary ocean liner; constructing still life photos inspired by the associative play of Gertrude Stein prose poems; or exploring Long Beach by photographing the donuts of different independently owned donuts shops, Sittler's work engages a sense of play that activates and questions interpretive networks of association. She is driven by contrasts and connections that hover between insignificance and monumentality, the historical to the hypothetical.

Join us in celebrating Rebecca's life and legacy in this special exhibition. 

The exhibition will run from August 24 through 27, from 12-5pm, with the closing exhibition on Thursday, August 27 from 4-7pm at the Marylin Werby Gallery, CSULB School of Art, 1250 Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach CA 90840. The School of Art Gallery Complex is located between FA2 and FA3, with nearest short-term metered parking located in Lot S1. Day parking is available in Lots E7 and E8 after 5:30pm.
