Annual Baseball Series of CSULB (ABSOC)
Showdown Brings Community and Fun to the Field
On Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 7:00pm, the Associated Business Students Organization Council (ABSOC), in collaboration with student business leaders, spearheaded the planning and execution of a campus‑wide gathering at Whaley Park for a night of school spirit and friendly competition during the first‑ever Annual Baseball Series of CSULB, also an intentional nod to "ABSOC". The slow-pitch softball event featured a matchup between the College of Business (COB) and the Hung Family College of Engineering (COE). What began as a simple athletic matchup quickly turned into a vibrant community‑building event that brought together members from across CSULB. The game welcomed participation from both students and staff, creating an inclusive and energetic atmosphere that extended well beyond the scoreboard. After a lively evening on the field, the COB secured an 11-2 victory, but the true win was the sense of unity and pride felt by everyone in attendance. Reflecting on the evening, ABSOC President, Daniel Pollock, shared the deeper impact of the event: “What started as a baseball game turned into something much bigger. One of the best parts of the night was meeting students I had never crossed paths with before and realizing how many opportunities there are to strengthen community across CSULB when we simply create spaces for people to show up together. Events like this remind us that campus life is about more than classes and majors it’s about building relationships, school spirit, and experiences that make this university feel like home.” The event was spearheaded through student leadership collaboration, with HRMA President Christian Martinez‑Hinojosa playing a key role in bringing the vision to life. “Spearheading something different, unique, and fun is truly a blessing. Working with Nicole, I was able to make my dream of setting up a community event to life. I hope that, through setting the foundation, this event becomes a staple in the Long Beach community in the years to come. Where everyone gets together, in spirit, unity and most importantly, fun!” That collaboration extended across disciplines, highlighting the power of cross‑college partnership. Nicole Bravo reflected on the experience from a marketing and engagement lens: “It was truly meaningful to gain a different perspective on marketing and community engagement while helping bring Christian's vision to life. Being part of the foundation of something new made the experience even more special.” The inaugural Annual Baseball Series of CSULB (ABSOC) showcased what’s possible when students come together with a shared desire to build community. With strong momentum and enthusiasm behind it, this event has set the stage for what many hope will become a lasting tradition.
