Permanent Residency

CSULB will sponsor permanent resident status only for an individual of exceptional ability who has been offered a full-time, permanent position as a faculty member.

Obtaining employment-based permanent resident status requires either that CSULB initially obtain labor certification for a position from the U.S. Department of Labor, or that CSULB shows U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services that the employee and the job offer qualify in one of the categories which are exempt from labor certification.

Faculty employees seeking permanent resident status are strongly advised to start the legal process within 15 months of their job offer letter to meet the 18-month allotment granted by the U.S. government.

While the university will assist with the initial phases of the permanent resident process, the application to obtain permanent residency and the fees associated with the application are the sole responsibility of the applicant. We highly recommend that all applicants secure legal representation to prepare and submit the permanent residency documentation.

Please contact Jessica Petrovic in International Students and Scholars at jessica.petrovic@csulb.edu for more information, and/or to start the permanent resident process.
