Immigration Check-In
Mandatory Check-In for F-1 International Students
Students with a brand new CSULB form I-20 must complete the Online Immigration Check-In to have their Check-In hold removed and to meet F-1 reporting requirements with the Department of Homeland Security. Failure to complete the Check-In may result in being disenrolled from classes.
Online Check-In Procedures
Go to your MyCSULB Account and enter your current:
- U.S. Mailing Address
- Telephone number
- Home email (your campus email will be the student csulb.edu account)
This information must be updated and accurate to have your visa registered with the government immigration system.

Save clear images of these immigration documents as a JPG or PDF file on your personal device:
- F-1 Visa page
- Most recent entry stamp or I-94 recent electronic record (saved as a PDF or JPEG file)
- Copy of CSULB form I-20 pages 1 and 2 with your signature
Immigration check-in form opens on December 22,2024. Deadline to complete the check-in form for Spring 2025 is February 21, 2025.
The online Check-in Self-Assessment will prompt you to confirm that your I-94 record is in F-1 status, watch videos, and answer review questions:
- If you have not entered the US you will not be eligible to complete the check-in survey
- If you have not verified that your I-94 record shows that you entered the US in F-1 status you will not be eligible to complete the check-in survey
- If you have not updated your MyCSULB account with your current US residential address, even if it's a temporary address, you will not be eligible to complete the check-in survey
We no longer collect immigration documents as part of the immigration check-in process, but you are required to verify your documents are accurate and valid.
The clearance of the check-in hold typically takes 3 business days to remove, but during peak submission it may take 7 business days.
