CSULB Film & Electronic Arts Department Expresses Gratitude to The Hollywood Foreign Press Association for their Support of Film Students in the 2021-2022 Academic Year

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has supported Film and Electronic Arts students at The Beach for the past 16 years. In addition to providing support for student productions, in 2020 and 2021 HFPA also supported students who experienced immediate need during the global Covid-19 pandemic through emergency grants to assist with housing, food, and general expenses. This year, the Film & Electronic Arts Department (FEA) extends our gratitude for HFPA’s grant in the amount of $60,000 to support film instruction and film students at CSULB.

“With awarding me this grant, you have lightened the financial burden which allows me to focus on learning and perfecting the craft of my passion. This past year has been especially hard financially for my family and I know this money will help support my tuition expenses for this upcoming school year, and I thank you for that. It may not be easy to follow your dreams, but your generosity shows that with great support you can achieve anything you set your mind to.”

In addition to providing production scholarship support for the making of student films, and film department equipment, HFPA continues to fund an endowed scholarship through the CSULB 49er Foundation. This endowed scholarship is decided upon each year through a competitive selection process and assists students with tuition, materials, and other educational materials. Prior to the Covid-19 Pandemic, HFPA has also assisted in travel expenses for Creative Nonfiction FEA students to attend the prestigious True/False Film Fest.

The Film & Electronic Arts Department remains in support of the ongoing work by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) in restructuring and reevaluating their organization to better represent and support the diverse voices in the industry. We are deeply proud of the dedication of HFPA as they continue to fund future filmmakers from a variety of non-profit and educational institutions.
