The CSULB Active Learning Classrooms (ALCs) are flexible, student-centered learning environments. ALCs allow instructors to actively engage their students and facilitate learning within small groups.
ALC Features
- Small group collaboration tables with writable surfaces accommodating up to 10 students (Recommend 4-6).
- At each student table: Windows computers, a flat-panel large display monitor, and personal device cable connections.
- Centralized teaching station with a master control panel, Windows computer, document camera, DVD/Blu-ray player, and personal device cable connections.
- Projector and surround sound speaker system.
ALC Instructional Support
- Award-winning Peer Mentorship Program for faculty interested in adopting active learning into their instruction.
- Faculty are paired with experienced faculty that use active learning techniques.
- The program is meant to assist with the adoption of active learning in the classroom.
- By the end of the program Faculty with become knowledgeable in active learning pedagogy and using technology in the classroom.
- Workshops on active learning-related topics.
- A quarterly newsletter for news on active learning events.
- Faculty focus groups provide a platform to voice ideas on technological needs and how to improve the active learning classrooms.
