Over 200 Long Beach Girl Scouts earned their STEM Career Explorer badges during a hands-on event led by CSULB Computer Science students and faculty from the College of Engineering and College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Organized by CECS student Julie Truong and Kimberly Lee under the mentorship of CECS Faculty Neal Terrell, the event introduced scouts from kindergarten to 8th grade to activities in coding, circuits, geology, health, and design—all aimed at inspiring confidence and curiosity in STEM.

“As a first-generation Vietnamese American without female STEM role models, I wanted to be the mentor I once needed,” said Kimberly Lee. Julie Truong added, “I hope this event reassures the girls that they can also be the trailblazers who make the world a better place.”

The event was supported by the NSF-funded METRIC Scholarship Program, promoting inclusive excellence and leadership in STEM at CSULB.
